PATIENCE wants to know - How I'll Spend My Summer Vacation!
This is too good to pass up. I'm very excited about our upcoming trip. Most of our summer will be "normal", whatever normal is; but the beginning our our summer will be really exciting.
The last week in May, we're going to NYC. We'll do some sightseeing and have a meet up with a fellow blogger, you know, normal tourist things. This is our 3rd week long stay in Manhattan, so we're familiar with the great city, but there's still lots to learn.
We always stay in Hell's Kitchen to be close to the convention center. The last part of our week is attending the BEA, Book Expo America. It's the book show for people in the trade, and it's wonderful for some one like me. We'll walk the book floor, pick up books, talk to publishers and authors. Here are some of our highlights:
We'll have breakfast on Friday morning with children's authors Meg Cabot, Tomie de Paola, Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Julie Andrews Edwards will be the Master of Ceremonies.
Saturday is Speed Dating with Children's authors. It's a rousing good time. I know, I'm weird.
Sunday morning another breakfast with adult authors Richard Russo, Gail Collins, Pete Dexter. Joe Scarborough will be the Master of Ceremonies.
Sunday, noon, is Meet the Bestsellers - Nicholas Sparks and David Baldacci. We'll get signed copies of their books and enjoy a COMPLIMENTARY LUNCH, Courtesy of Grand Central Publishing/Hachette Book Group.
There will be tons more events, but they're not announced, yet.
Then Sunday after our Bestsellers lunch, we get on a cruise ship and sail away to Bermuda. We did this 4 years ago, and decided to repeat, because it's fun and because it's Bermuda's 400th anniversary, this year.
When we return to NYC, we'll fly to North Carolina to see the right-coast members of our family. We missed visiting them last year, because Bob's back wasn't fixed, yet. But this year he's good to go, and we're very excited.
So, that's our Summer Vacation. NYC, Bermuda, North Carolina. Woo hoo! After we return, I'll post lots of photos. The photos I used today are from google images.
I a so jealous...all the NYC stuff and then Bermuda. WOW...been there once. Love it too. But we flew. I like the idea of cruising. Can't wait to see the pcitures!

ReplyDeleteI'm sure that you will have a brilliant time and I look forward to reading all about it when you get back. I have been to NY (spent a week there in June 2006 and a further day there as part of a trip to New England in Oct 06).

ReplyDeleteOh - that sounds like an amazing trip! I love Julie Andrews Edwards. I knew her as Julie Edwards from her book "Mandy" as I grew up - and was amazed when I discovered that she was also Julie Andrews!

The best kind of trip--one with a purpose then a leisurely cruise (smiled when I saw the bright photo of policeman in roundabout on Bermuda)and finish with a family re-connect. I'm just pausing to think about how much fun it would be to rub elbows with the book world. Do you work full time at Barnes and Noble? I'm heading there in the morning to pick up a just released memoir by a local, Tori Murden. First woman to row alone across the Atlantic.
