Give away number two, The Lieutenant by Kate Grenville. This book will be released on 9/8/09; the copy I'm giving away is an uncorrected proof. (I only remember one error, that's part of the fun of reading these Advance Readers Copies.) I really loved this historical novel, a retelling of the first Europeans to colonize Sydney in 1788. It's a beautiful written profoundly uplifting novel.
Kate Grenville is one of Australia's best-loved authors. Her works of fiction include The Secret River, winner of the Commonwealth Writer's Prize for Best Book and shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize. She lives in Sydney.
